In Mark 2:23-28 the Lord explains to the Pharisees that the sabbath was made for man, not the man for sabbath. In Mark 3: 1-5, the Lord heals a man with the withered hand. I have two questions about this...
1. Were the disciples, in any way, wrong for plucking corn on the sabbath?
2. Is the difference between a man laboring on the sabbath and Jesus healing on the sabbath, due to the fact that a man labors for his own gain and Jesus glorified the Father by showing mercy to the man with the withered hand?

No, what Jesus meant was that, man was not made for the Sabbath. The Sabbath was a day set aside to worship God, not a day to control the man. This is why the bible says, which of you having a sheep that fall into a pit on the Sabbath will not lift it out. Also it says, have you not read what David did, how he went into the temple and did eat of the show bread which was unlawful. Two points need to be made here, one, with Jesus being there and being God in the flesh. While with Jesus everything is subject to him. You must understand if God is on the earth, he is not bound by a law to worship himself. If he says it's ok for his disciples that are with him, who is going to oppose him. God is the one who made the law, God is also the one who can break or change his law. Second, when David and his men where hungry or when the sheep was in the pit, you have to know God to the extent that he desire mercy over sacrifice. Matthew 23: 23 when Jesus said you pay your tithes of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgement, mercy and faith. Jesus healed on the sabbath because God desired mercy over sacrifice. Jesus disciples and David was hungry, and God's mercy is greater than the Sabbath day or the sacrifice. Where sin abounds, grace abounds more.
